The 7th International Film Festival of Russia and CIS Countries, Lendoc Film Festival LEFF, was held in St. Petersburg

Cinema as a universal language

From August 20 to 22, St. Petersburg hosted the VII Lendoc Film Festival (LEFF), an international film festival bringing together filmmakers from Russia and neighboring countries.

The project “Night Nanny”, created under the “Documentary Cinema of Krasnoyarye” grant program, won the Lendoc Film Festival award in the category «For Commitment to the Traditions of Direct Cinema». Directed by Artur Sokolov (produced by YeniseyFilm/Siberian Independent Cinema Studio), the film tells the story of a boarding school worker in the Siberian village of Yartsevo, Krasnoyarsk Region, who helps children from Old Believer families adapt to their new environment. This moving documentary raises crucial questions about helping children adjust to a new place and cope with separation from their loved ones.

Irina Belova, General Director of “Yenisey Kino”, participated in two key events of the festival. She served as a speaker at the meeting of film organization leaders and as a jury member for the pitching of fiction and non-fiction co-production projects, which aims to develop partnerships between filmmakers from Russia and the CIS countries.

The winner of the pitch session was a documentary series with reconstruction elements titled “Republics to the Front” by St. Petersburg director Kim Druzhinin.
