The Yenisei Kino team traveled to one of Russia’s northernmost settlements
Khatanga is not only a village in the Taimyr Dolgan-Nenets District of Krasnoyarsk Region, but also a legendary gateway to the Arctic, which to this day attracts travelers eager to connect with untouched nature and feel the spirit of true polar adventure.
Despite its harsh climate and remote location far from major cities, Khatanga’s rich history has attracted explorers for centuries. In the 17th century, it was visited by the Streltsy commander Vasily Sychev and the Cossack ataman Semyon Dezhnev; in the 18th century, by the explorers and naval officers Khariton Laptev and Semyon Chelyuskin; in the 19th century, by the naturalist Alexander Middendorf, and many others.
The Yenisei Kino film chronicle team visited the village of Khatanga, which celebrates its 400th anniversary this year. One of the new issues of the Yenisei Meridian film magazine will be dedicated to this unique region. The filming will also be included in the Krasnoyarsk Region film archive.
Meanwhile, specialist from the Film Production Assistance Department have compiled a database of locations to be added to the Krasnoyarsk Region Film Commission website. The site will be updated with impressive Khatanga landmarks: the Mammoth Museum and the Taimyr Museum-Reserve, the seaport and power plant, Lake Shchuchye, and Mount Gubina.
