II REGIONAL CINEMA FORUM “NEW VECTOR” TOOK PLACE IN SVETLOGORSK (KALININGRAD OBLAST) FROM JULY 8 TO 10

The forum was attended by representatives of the public authorities, film industry, cultural and art figures, IT specialists, businessmen, media experts, and other experts—all about 200 people from more than 30 regions of Russia.

The first session of the «New Vector» focused on “Models of Development of Regional Cinema,” during which speakers discussed the experiences of their particular regions with regard to the success of cinematographic projects.

Dmitry Yakunin, the forum’s general producer, opened the event and discussed the first results of «New Vector». According to him, at last year’s forum, participants were awarded five regional films, which were then distributed federally. They include «Spirit of Baikal,» «The Trial of Aul,» «Northern Amurs,» «Suvorov 1944,» and «The Yenisei Marathon.»

Milyasha Aytuganova, director of «Tatarkino,» discussed the development of cinema in Tatarstan and emphasized the significance of introducing films into the world rather than showing them in their region.

“The market for regional cinema is limited, so for regional films to be sold, they need to be “married” to one another, guaranteeing mutual support, including distribution support,” the panelist said.

At the end of the session, the speakers agreed that all regional cinema development models are worthwhile and should be based on everything. However, it is not inconsiderate to copy but rather to assess, analyze, and apply novel insights in their respective regions.
