From Southern latitudes to the North: St. Luke’s story is under filming in the Krasnoyarsk Krai!

From November 28 until December 4, Krasnoyarsk Krai will play host to the filming of a documentary directed by Pavel Astakhov about Saint Luke (Voyno-Yasenetsky). The film crew has worked in 14 cities where St. Luke served. Krasnoyarsk and Krasnoyarsk Krai will be the final stop on a lengthy journey before the motion picture is edited.

“The film is primarily about the life of Saint Luke (Voyno-Yasenetsky), and his life was tremendous! If we compare it geographically, his life was from the South to the North of Russia and from the West to the East. For us to show the scale of his life, we had to overcome all this distance—to visit Crimea, Tambov, Chita, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Tashkent, Tajikistan, and now in Krasnoyarsk,” told us Renat Uldanov, the director of the film.

The film is being shot in Krasnoyarsk on November 28, and it began with the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the Nikolayevskoye Cemetery. This is where in 1943 Archbishop Luke celebrated the first liturgy in the only active cathedral in Krasnoyarsk—a memorial plaque on the wall of the church reminds us about it. Since its construction in 1908, this cathedral has never been closed. Now its area has doubled. Here anyone may receive blessing with a piece of St. Luke’s relics.

After the cathedral, the shooting continued in the house where Valentin Feliksovich lived, in the museum at school No. 10, where the evacuation hospital was located, and even for a while St. Luke lived under the stairs. Tomorrow the film crew will go on to Bolshaya Murta, Yeniseisk, and Turukhansk.

The team of filmmakers brought with them a plaque that will be installed on the cathedral of the Turukhansk Holy Trinity Monastery in memory of St. Luke’s visit. Out of all the towns they visited, Turukhansk has no memorial signs reminding of the great saint, according to the project participants. Therefore, this plaque be a gift for the 100th anniversary of St. Luke’s exile in Krasnoyarsk Krai.

The film will be available in the spring of 2025 on the Spas TV channel.

The crew headed by Pavel Astakhov also visited Yenisei Kino, where they went on a walk through the film collection and were shown the latest film digitizing scanner and a modern recording room.
